4/20 We hope this communication finds you healthy and adjusting to our current environment as we are at your cooperative. Amid this COVID-19 pandemic, we want to you well informed on what we at Prince George Electric Cooperative and RURALBAND are doing to ensure business continuity in providing reliable electric and broadband services to our consumers. Governor Northam issued the closure of non-essential businesses beginning at midnight March 24, 2020. As a utility, electric service and broadband service are considered essential.
At this time of uncertainty, please know that we are doing all we can to protect our staff and the community from spreading the virus while continuing to provide the reliable services you expect from PGEC. We ask everyone to follow the guidance from the CDC and our governor in practicing social distancing, stay at home if you can, and wash your hands and practice good hygiene.
PGEC crews will continue ensuring we provide reliable electricity to our consumers. We ask the public to not interact with our crews if they are out working on the electric system or responding to power outages and respect the request of our federal and state governments to practice social distancing. This is in the best interest of public health safety to prevent potential infection of COVID-19.
Our crews continue to work deploying broadband service to our communities in a safe manner. We are working with our team and contractors to ensure we are not posing risks to public health. If our technicians must come to your home to install or repair your service, please tell them if anyone in the house is feeling ill. While they are in your home, we require that you keep at least six feet of separation at all times.
As previously mentioned, PGEC’s offices are closed to anyone who is not a PGEC employee. We have provided methods for account management, paying your bill and reporting outages on our websites www.pgec.coop and www.ruralband.coop as well as on our Facebook page. You can also find a listing of internet hotspots provided for your convenience around the region on our www.ruralband.coop and Facebook. Please follow our social media, Facebook and Twitter, as this is where all current announcements are posted so our members can stay well informed.
We will get through this together. The best thing we all can do now is to work together to stop the spread of COVID-19 by practicing social distancing and proper hygiene. Our priority is maintaining best practices to ensure good health for our employees and the communities we serve. May you and your loved ones stay well and healthy.

3/24 PGEC and RURALBAND are facing the COVID-19 pandemic head-on. We want our members to know we are still operating the electric and fiber business as we always have. Our offices are still open, however, we are making them “drive-thru only” for the protection of the membership and our employees. We are paying a painful price for that technology gap that has been in our communities for so long, never before has the light of attention shown more brightly on the digital divide we face. We are committed to still push forward with our fiber-to-the-home deployment and connect as many members as possible to assist our communities with working from home and schoolwork for our students to keep them from falling behind. Please know that PGEC and RURALBAND will still be here, on-call 24/7, for our membership in this time of need.
3/20 At PGEC, we're practicing social distancing. Please keep in mind you can call into our offices to pay your bill with your credit card or use our SmartHub online app for your convenience.
3/19 During these uncertain times, PGEC is committed to remaining member-focused. Our linemen continue to replace poles, make upgrades, and stay prepared for any outages ahead. PGEC knows we have a responsibility to maintain your electrical service to the high standards our members deserve and that’s what your cooperative will do as we all get through this current challenge together.
3/16 Prince George Electric Cooperative recognizes the hardships that the public health crisis imposes on our member-owners. Out of concern for our member-owners and their communities, PGEC will not be disconnecting members' service for residential member-owners at this time and will continue to work with our business, commercial, and industrial member-owners to mitigate the impact of the state of emergency until further notice.
