Three local high school seniors are the proud recipients of $1,000 scholarships courtesy of the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives Education Scholarship for High School Seniors. Each year, the Education Scholarship Foundation awards $1,000 scholarships to deserving high school seniors whose parents or legal guardian are members of one of the 15 electric cooperatives served by VMDAEC.
The 2024 scholarship recipients are:
Gabriel Jenkins – Prince George High School
Jamel Jenkins – Prince George High School
Christian Philpot – The Grace Academy
Gabriel, Jamel and Christian are among 65 students who are receiving $1,000 awards in honor of Worth Hudson, the first chairman of the VMDAEC Education Scholarship Foundation Board.
“It warms my heart each time I see co-ops taking an active role in the development of our local youth,” says Brittany Tann, the co-op’s senior communications specialist.
“Thanks to the intentional generosity of the Foundation, three more students in the co-op’s territory are one step closer to achieving their post-secondary education dreams.”
A combination of weighted criteria is used in the selection process: 40% financial need; 40% academic achievement; and 20% personal statement. Funds can be applied towards tuition, student fees, room and board, or textbooks.
